Jul 3. Kings Beach: Fireworks also get under way at 9:30 p.m. and can be best seen from the Kings Beach State Recreation Area. Viewing Party at the North Tahoe Event Center, right on the water in Kings Beach. Attendees get entry to front row fireworks, live music and dancing, along with a no host bar and food available for purchase throughout the evening - $10
Jul 4 Tahoe City’s 63rd annual fireworks celebration begins at 9:30 p.m. at Commons Beach. Prime viewing spots are from the beach, where family picnics are popular, as well as various locations throughout town along North Lake Boulevard. Guests can also make reservations at one of Tahoe City’s many lakefront restaurants, including Jake’s on the Lake and Christy Hill along with nearby Wolfdale’s Cuisine Unique.
Jul 4 Incline Village: Incline Beach at 9:30 p.m. Incline Village pulls out all the stops with a multi-day celebration, July 2 through July 4, called Red, White and Tahoe Blue. The Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort Arts & Crafts Festival (July 3-5) brings together an exciting group of more than 60 artists showcasing collectable arts and crafts in a variety of media including paintings, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, photography and more. The event is free in the Village at Northstar and is the perfect way to get your kids creativity flowing for the Independence Day Kids Parade. Executive director, Dr. Angus Quinlan, delivers insight into the rich cultural landmarks located across the state line. The event takes place at Resort at Squaw Creek in Squaw Valley at 7:00 PM, with a no-host bar reception beginning at 6:30 PM. "Rock art" is the collective term for a variety of forms of visual representation made on natural rock surfaces (boulders, cliff faces, cave walls, etc.) and are found throughout the world. Nevada rock art is found in a wide variety of landscapes and locations and provides information about the social and cultural practices of prehistoric communities not available from other archaeological resources. Proceeds from the breakfast benefit the Volunteer Firefighters Association that donates much needed equipment to the Meeks Bay Fire Protection District. Live performances by three premier bluegrass bands, Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek, Head for the Hills and Loose Canon, as well as beer tasting by more than 20 regional breweries. 11th ANNUAL TAHOE ARTS FESTIVAL – JUL 11-12
10 am to 6 pm, the parking lot of the Tahoe Biltmore will become one giant canvas for local and visiting artists to display their talent through the long-time tradition of Italian Street Painting. A free event and open to the public, this year’s Tahoe Arts Festival is expected to be one of the largest street painting gatherings in the region. Guests will also be treated to an Artist Marketplace featuring hand-crafted items, live entertainment, and delicious food offerings. Children can get into the creative act in Chalkland, a specially designated area for kids and families, where children will have the chance to create their very own street art. Frank DeCourten, Professor of Earth Sciences at Sierra College, will lead a fantastic weekend of lectures and hikes focused on geology of the Tahoe region. This program will be a week-end field exploration of the geology of the Tahoe basin region geared to provide a general audience with an appreciation for, and understanding of, the evolution of the northern Sierra Nevada landscape. The hikes will target localities and areas of geologic significance, will be planned and organized to accommodate novice hikers, and will stress the relationship between geologic processes and natural features of the terrain. Artists interested in exhibiting their work at North Tahoe ARTS in 2010 are encouraged to call the NTA office for an application or find one on our website, www.northtahoearts.com . We are looking for a variety of exhibits. If you are interested in a solo show, or wish to partner with other artists, or have a themed exhibit idea, we would like to hear from you. Accomplished artists working in all mediums will be considered. We are seeking contemporary work as well as landscapes, still life, portrait artists, potters, jewelers, wood turners, poetry and more. The North Tahoe ARTS Center has two galleries in Tahoe City. All applicants will be required to submit a completed application with images of artwork in jpg format on CD’s. An administrative fee of $20 is required and must accompany the application. Wall art, three-dimensional art, and sculpture submissions are encouraged.
